Even really young kids regularly hear about scary things in the world. Having worked with lots of kids who’ve been through very tough experiences, I know one thing for sure—we can’t not talk about it. We have to address it; we have to give kids strategies to deal with the things that are frightening. I was thinking about this when I wrote "Hello Hope” (it’s on my new album, "Every Voice”). I hope it can be a reminder that when we reach out and take care of each other, we can all stay hopeful, no matter what’s going on.
HELLO HOPE
When we hear/things that create fear
we wonder what it’s all about
so much fighting/what it might bring
we don’t know what to think of it all
but there are people
good people
who love us and won’t let us fall
hello hope, goodbye scariness
we don’t need you around here any more
hello hope, goodbye loneliness
we are all one in this crazy big world
we can reach out
cause there is no doubt
when we help someone else it helps us too
we can reach out/cause there is no doubt
when we help someone else it helps us too
we’ll fill ourselves up
we’ll fill the world up
with kindness and love and joy
hello hope, goodbye scariness
we don’t need you around here any more
hello hope, goodbye loneliness
we are all one in this crazy big world
if it never got dark
we’d never see the stars at all
if it never got dark
we’d never see the stars at all
It’s simple piano and vocals, perfect for rest time or savasana. For older kids, use it as a starting point for a conversation--see what comes up when you listen to the song.
Let me know what you think! I’d love to hear from you.
